As summer winds down, students in Clark and Champaign counties will soon start for the 2025-26 school year.

Some local students will begin classes the third week of August, while most start the fourth or fifth weeks of the month. All students will be back by September.

Many districts have separate start dates for preschool and kindergarten students versus grades 1 through 12. In those cases, preschool and kindergarten kids often start a few days later than the rest of the school. Check your individual school district’s calendar for details.

Here’s a list of the back-to-school dates for local public, private and career tech schools.

Aug. 14: Emmanuel Christian Academy K-12.

Aug. 18: Greenon Local grades 1-12; Springfield City grades 1-9; Urbana City group A.

Aug. 19: Northeastern Local grades 1-5 last name A-K and 6-12; Northwestern Local kindergarten staggered start and grades 3-12; Springfield City grades 10-12; Triad Local grades 1-12; Urbana City group B.

Aug. 20: Global Impact STEM Academy grades 6, 7, 10-12; Graham Local grades 1-9; Northeastern Local grades 1-5 last name L-Z; Springfield-Clark Career Technology Center (CTC) new students; Springfield City kindergarten; Tecumseh Local grade 2-12; Urbana City all students.

Aug. 21: Catholic Central grades K-12; Clark-Shawnee Local grades 1-12; Global Impact STEM Academy grades 8-9; Graham Local grades 1-12 and kindergarten staggered start; Greenon Local kindergarten last names A-M; Mechanicsburg Exempted Village; Northeastern Local kindergarten last names A-K; Springfield-Clark CTC returning students; Tecumseh Local 1st grade.

Aug. 22: Global Impact STEM Academy all students; Greenon Local kindergarten last names N-Z; Northeastern Local kindergarten last names L-Z; Northwestern Local all students; Springfield-Clark CTC all students; Triad Local kindergarten.
